Over the holidays, we offer services and activities for children and families in the mornings. We will reflect on the themes of the holidays, hear stories, do activities, and have holiday services. On Rosh Hashanah, older children will visit the upstairs sanctuary during the shofar service.
Programs for children ages 2-5 will be primarily led by our wonderful pre-school director, Ilana Friedman. Programs for children ages 6-12 will be led by our Education Director, Julia Gross Alexander, and by our amazing MASA teachers. Children ages 5 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult. Please make sure to register your children for each day they will attend, so that we can be sure to have age-appropriate activities and so that we will have enough supplies for everyone!
Here is our schedule for the specific times of services:
Rosh Hashanah Day 1 schedule:
9-10 am: Ilana Friedman, our pre-school lead teacher and director, will conduct High Holiday activities for children ages 2-5. Ilana will use storytelling and exploration to heighten consciousness of this holidays' themes. We ask parents of this younger group to remain with their children during the program.
10-10:30: Special holiday Mini Minyan for ages 2-12. Children ages 2-5 must be accompanied by an adult.
10:30-10:50: Birthday party for the world! Ages 2-12 welcome. Children ages 2-5 must be accompanied by an adult. Snacks will be served.
10:50-1: Children 6-12 will attend the shofar service in the upstairs sanctuary, and then come downstairs for activities focused on celebrating the birth of the world and preparing for Tashlich later in the day. What do we want to hold on to from the past year? What do we hope to leave behind? We will have another service, and a snack.
Tashlich at Long Dock:
4:00: The whole community will gather at Long Dock Park, on the banks of the Hudson river. Please bring stale bread to cast off, and a picnic dinner so we can enjoy each others’ company afterward!
Rosh Hashanah Day 2 schedule:
10-10:30 am: Special holiday Mini Minyan for ages 2-12. Children ages 2-5 must be accompanied by an adult.
10:30 am - 1 pm: We will have services and activities for children between the ages of 6 and 12. We will continue to reflect on the changing of the seasons, our growth over the past year, and on forgiveness.
Yom Kippur schedule:
10 am - 1 pm: We will have services and activities for children between the ages of 6 and 12. We will reflect on repentance and forgiveness, and on remembering and honoring those who are no longer with us.
