Performances by Artists Thomas Albrecht & Rena Leinberger and Discussion with Anastasia James: An Open to the Sky Event

Artists Thomas Albrecht and Rena Leinberger present new overlapping performances. The pieces form and unform one another in actions of letting fall and attempts to sweep up, tending perimeters and reshaping, continuous undoing and redoing. Anastasia James, Curator of the Dorsky Museum, will lead a discussion to follow.

Open to the Sky is a reimagining of the ancient Jewish holiday of Sukkot. A sukkah (pronounced sue-kah) is a  sand mandala of a building, open to the sky and used for seven days around the time of the fall harvest and then dismantled. It's rickety and tenuous, creating the illusion of permanence and highlighting the impermanence of everything. For more information about the holiday and Open to the Sky, please click here

All of the programs of Open to the Sky are offered without charge; however, there are (of course) costs associated with the construction and maintenance of this project. If you can help support Open to the Sky with a donation of any size, please click here.
