Position Title: Summer Assistant Teacher

Position Overview: BHA Preschool seeks a dependable, energetic, professional Summer Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in providing a safe and peaceful environment for our students. This is a 7 week position for Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30am - 12pm which will begin on June 21st, 2018 and end on August 10th, 2018.

Qualifications: Applicants must have:

  • at least two years experience caring for children ages 2-4 in a group setting (a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field and/or teaching experience a plus).

  • excellent skills in caring for the personal hygiene and general well-being of young children.

  • an energetic, flexible, and open-minded personality, enthusiasm for daily outdoor garden exploration, and clear, positive communication with children and their families.

  • familiarity with and strong interest in progressive education and child-centered learning. Curiosity or existing knowledge about Jewish traditions and educational gardening.


Responsibilities: The Assistant Teacher will be expected to:

  • Support the Lead Teacher in developing and implementing a curriculum that includes indoor and outdoor activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, gardening, culinary arts, and storytelling. Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to prepare materials and to set up and clean up the space each school day.

  • Support self-expression as students observe, question, and investigate. Work with the Lead Teacher to document children’s self-expression and to track their progress and needs. Collaboratively develop individualized approaches to support each child’s learning and independence.

  • Reinforce each child’s participation in daily routines. Attend to each child’s personal hygiene needs. Change diapers, help children as they learn to use the toilet, and help with hand-washing. With the lead teacher, ensure the children’s safety and well-being.
